2007 Season On September 29th both Jim and Cliff were fast qualifiers.
Jim drew the #5 start, Cliff drew the #7. Jim finished third in the dash, he was protecting his car. In the main having to finish fifth or better to lock up his championship he drove smart, finishing forth. Even though he was much faster he held position and defended his championship. That's back to back championships!!! We are about half way through the season. Jim has raced eight times, so far, with: 3-Firsts, 3-Seconds, 1-Forth, 1-Ninth The forth place finish Jim was running in first when another racer tried to wreck him. He did not win but still finished ahead of the other racer. The ninth place finish Jim was running in first win a different racer affiliated with the other racer drove over Jim's car. Crushing most of the body. Jim still made the top ten after leaving the track and finished ahead of the racer that crushed his car. Their were fines and suspensions for the ruff driving. Jim is in first place by 30 points in the championship. Cliff has raced four times, so far this season: The first race using last years motor he
won but was disqualified over a rule change that they had
overlooked. A non performance enhancing part was left on the
motor from last year. Their only fault was not catching the
small change. He is in third place in the points six points out of second and eight points out of first. They believe that they both can win the
championship this year. July 28 Jim increased his lead in the points and Cliff now tied
for the lead with two other racers. Cliff had a lucky and great night. For qualifying, he forgot to empty his helmet cooler ice chest. This is a cooler in the car he puts ice into and run air into the box before it goes to his helmet. To much water built up in the box and spilled on the floor boards of his car and dumped right under his right rear tire. He thought he had a flat tire during qualifying! In the pit he saw what had happened. Oops! As his good luck would have it this put him on the pole for the trophy dash, which he won. Cliff was in the back for the heat and got to third. The main race he started in third row inside (5Th) and won. The two racers he was following in the points finished 4Th (#77) and 5Th (#27) so all of them are now tied for first! No damage to the cars, it was a great night! August 11, 2007
Cliff had a great car, he took it out only once in practice. Set fast
time drew the #4 start. They inverted the heat race and trophy dash, thinks
he finished third in each. He was not working the car hard. The main on lap
three Cliff was passing for the lead and Kyle in the #56 turned down, over
corrected his car, and crashed Cliff's right side. Unfortunately he flatted
Cliff's right front tire. He went two laps down as all of our crew and 3 or
4 other crew members put another tire on. With a tire rubbing smoke and a
new oil leak onto the exhaust he was really smoking the track. Cliff
un-lapped himself only one of the two laps he was down. A really hard thing
to do. But that finished him in seventh. You know, sometimes the fastest car
doe not win. Cliff is two points back of the #27 and six behind the #77. I
think He have about six weeks to get everything shipshape on his car.
Jim was a different story. Problems all day with his car stopping and or sputtering. Cliff went all over San Bernardino and Riverside looking for fuel filters and fuel pump. Nothing was working. He could not qualify. Finally he replaced a new distributor with an old back up and then he could race... from the back of the pack. He used the heat race as a test and the car was great. In the main he had a hard time getting around several cars even though he was much faster. One newcomer would not move over. As the leader of the race was about to lap Jim, he finally cleared the #54 and he took off. Faster than the leader of the race he moved up to seventh but not one caution came out all night for him and he ran out of race. Jim still has a 10 point lead on the #5 of Dave Arce.
